· Glengoyne Distillery

Through the years life in the highlands has been harsh on the whisky industry, as the years have passed so have the distilleries. Each year more and more of the Scottish highlands' distilleries have succumbed to economic pressure and closed. Many listed here have been mothballed and we rely on the stocks left behind.

My first thought when I nosed this dram was "if this is what heaven smells like then I'm going" the flavour of the dalwhinnie is accentuated by the double distilling and the mouthfeel is that of a rich sherry casked speyside malt yet very light on the sherry. This one truly is heaven sent. |

This small distillery is located in the far north on the ocean in the town of Wick. During the 19th century Wick was a "dry town" and it wasn't until May 1947 that prohibition was lifted. As there weren't any roads in or out the raw materials were shipped in and the whisky was shipped out. This whisky is salty with a good body and smooth finish. |

Queen Victoria visited the distillery when she first bought the adjacent property. This is the most amazing whisky I've ever had. It is full, well rounded with malty tones and a full relaxing finish. When first sampled my dram lasted near an hour. My thoughts ventured to a cabin overlooking a mist filled lake and I envisioned my retirement. |
