When speaking of whisky, we traditionally refer to Scotland, Ireland, America and Canada but were you aware of Japan's contribution? Japan's Suntory distillery is the largest distillery by volume in the world and also owns Scotland's; Bowmore, Glengarioch and Auchentoshan distilleries.
The majority of whisky produced in Japan is blended with whisky imported from Scotland. This is primarily due to high labour and material costs. The Japanese seem to not respect their own production capabilities of whisky as there are; some very good quality unblended whiskies, yet they prefer blended malts. Throughout Asia one can find whisky production including Thailand and china.
Throughout the world whisky is distilled, to the south of Scotland in the tiny country of Wales there is a very fine malty whisky produced, The Prince of Wales. Of all the whiskies produced throughout the world this one is the closest to the Scottish style. The Czech Republic has a number of distilleries one can even find whisky production in Spain, India and New Zealand. On the east coast of Canada in the province of Nova Scotia there is a small distillery. This facility is producing a Scottish style product and has changed hands a few times in its short life and just recently their stocks have made it to the market place.
