Standing on the seaweed-strewn crag that over looks the distillery one can see Ireland in the distant, it was the Irish that came and defeated the Vikings and who had occupied the land for centuries, later the mainland Scots reclaimed the western islands and built their headquarters in a castle situated above the distillery. However while the Irish were here they were distilling, the locals picked up the skill and when the Irish left a “few” farmers began producing the illegal spirit.
